Terms of Service

Consumer terms for the MockMode website and 11+ practice service Last updated: 1 October 2026

1. About these Terms

These Terms are a contract between MockMode Ltd (company number 17537972), registered in England and Wales with registered office at Suite RA01, 195-197 Wood Street, London, E17 3NU ("MockMode", "we", "us"), and the adult who creates the MockMode account ("you" or the "Account Holder").

You must be at least 18 and be the parent, guardian or other person authorised to create and manage the account for the child using MockMode. The child is an authorised user of the educational features but is not a party to the subscription contract.

By creating the adult account, you agree to these Terms. You should also read our Privacy Policy and the Child-Friendly Privacy Notice.

2. Who may use MockMode

MockMode is designed for children aged 9 to 13 preparing for the UK 11+ and related entrance examinations. At launch, each account is for one child profile and for that child's personal, non-commercial study use.

Children do not create their own login. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for supervising appropriate use of the account. Do not share the account with another household, tutor, school or other commercial user.

3. What MockMode provides

MockMode provides Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning practice questions, mock examinations, explanations and progress tools.

Free tier

The Free tier provides a curated taster of questions in every topic, with explanations. Once the free questions in a subject have been used, further questions in that subject are locked unless the account has Premium access.

MockMode Premium

MockMode Premium provides access to the paid features shown on the pricing page, including the wider question bank and features such as progress dashboards, PDF progress reports, mock exams, mistakes review, bookmarks, worksheet-building tools, badges and certificates, subject to reasonable product updates under these Terms.

Premium is available at launch for £12.99 per month or £99 per year. The total price payable will be shown before you place the order. MockMode is not VAT-registered at launch. If tax treatment changes, any consumer price displayed at checkout will show the total amount payable.

4. Educational disclaimer and third-party names

MockMode is an independent study aid. We do not guarantee a particular score, pass, school place or admission outcome. Actual examination formats, admissions criteria and difficulty can change, and you remain responsible for checking the current requirements of the relevant school or examination body.

Unless we expressly say otherwise, MockMode is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any school, examination body or assessment provider. References to names such as CSSE, GL Assessment, CEM or individual schools are descriptive references to help users understand relevant exam formats or admissions information. Third-party names and trade marks remain the property of their respective owners.

5. Seven-day Premium trial

When a new account is first created, it automatically receives 7 days of Premium access without needing a payment card. The trial starts when the account is created.

If you do not choose a paid subscription, no payment is taken and the account automatically reverts to the Free tier when the trial ends.

You may choose a paid Premium subscription during the trial. Before you confirm, the checkout will show the price, billing interval, first payment date and whether payment is taken immediately or scheduled for the end of the remaining trial. We will not charge you merely because the no-card trial ends.

6. Subscriptions, payment and renewal

Premium subscriptions are processed through Stripe. Full card details are entered on Stripe-hosted pages and are not stored by MockMode.

A paid monthly or annual subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. By confirming the subscription, you authorise Stripe to take the recurring payment shown at checkout using your selected payment method.

We will show the plan, total price, billing frequency, first payment date, renewal basis and cancellation route before you place the order. We will also send or make available a confirmation in a durable form such as email.

For annual subscriptions, we will send an advance renewal reminder stating the renewal date, renewal price and how to cancel. We will update our subscription process as additional UK subscription-contract requirements come into force.

7. Cancelling renewal

You can stop future renewals at any time using the "Manage subscription" function, which opens the Stripe Customer Portal. You do not need to telephone or speak to us to cancel.

Unless a statutory cancellation or refund right applies, cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the billing period already paid for. You keep Premium access until that date and no further renewal payment is taken. The account then reverts to the Free tier and the child's account data and progress are kept unless you separately close or delete the account.

Cancelling a subscription and closing an account are different actions. Account deletion is explained in our Privacy Policy and can be requested through the account tools where available or by emailing support@mockmode.app.

8. Fourteen-day first-subscription refund guarantee

In addition to your statutory rights, MockMode gives you a voluntary 14-day full-refund guarantee on your first paid Premium subscription. If you ask us to cancel and refund that first paid subscription within 14 days of the date the first payment is taken, we will refund that payment in full even if the child has already used Premium during those 14 days.

This voluntary guarantee applies to the first paid MockMode subscription only. It does not automatically restart on later renewals, plan changes or a future re-subscription. It does not reduce or replace any statutory cancellation, refund or consumer rights you may have.

To use the guarantee, cancel the subscription and email support@mockmode.app clearly asking for the 14-day first-subscription refund. We may use the Stripe transaction details to process the refund.

9. Statutory cancellation and consumer rights

UK consumers who enter into a contract online may have statutory cancellation rights under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. Different rules can apply to services and to digital content supplied without a tangible medium, particularly where supply begins during the cancellation period.

We do not use these Terms to take away a statutory cancellation right. Required cancellation information is provided before purchase and in our Cancellation and Refund Notice. Our voluntary 14-day first-subscription refund guarantee is intended to give you a clear additional right to a full refund of the first payment even if Premium has been used during that guarantee period.

Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or remedies under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other mandatory consumer law, including rights relating to digital content and services that do not meet applicable statutory standards.

10. Refunds after the first 14 days

After the voluntary 14-day first-subscription refund period, ordinary cancellation does not normally produce a pro-rata refund for unused time in a monthly or annual billing period. You continue to receive Premium access until the end of the period already paid for.

This does not affect any refund or other remedy required by law. If MockMode has materially failed to provide the paid service, or we permanently discontinue a paid service during a prepaid period, we will provide an appropriate remedy. If we permanently stop the relevant paid service for reasons unrelated to your breach, this will normally include a fair pro-rata refund for unused prepaid time.

We may also give a goodwill refund in appropriate circumstances, including an accidental annual renewal reported promptly, but a discretionary goodwill refund is not guaranteed and does not limit statutory rights.

11. Changing plans and failed payments

Where a plan-change option is available in the Stripe Customer Portal, the portal will show the price, any credit or additional amount, and when the change takes effect before you confirm it. If an immediate plan change is not available, you can cancel the existing renewal and choose a different plan at the appropriate renewal point.

If a payment fails, Stripe or MockMode may retry the payment and ask you to update the payment method. Premium access may be suspended or the account may revert to the Free tier while payment remains unpaid. A payment failure does not by itself delete the account or the child's progress data.

12. Price changes and promotions

We may change Premium prices for a future renewal. A price change will not alter a billing period you have already paid for. We will give reasonable advance notice before a higher renewal price is charged, and you can cancel before renewal if you do not want to continue.

Discounts, vouchers and promotions may have additional conditions shown with the offer. Promotional terms do not remove statutory rights.

13. Your account

  • provide accurate account information;
  • keep the password and access credentials secure;
  • tell us promptly if you believe the account has been accessed without permission;
  • use the account only for the single child profile permitted at launch; and
  • not sell, transfer or commercially share account access.

You are not automatically responsible for activity caused by a security failure outside your reasonable control. We may take reasonable security steps where unauthorised use is suspected.

14. Acceptable use

You and the child using the account must not:

  • copy, publish, distribute, sell, sublicense or commercially exploit MockMode questions, explanations, mock examinations, reports or other protected content;
  • scrape, crawl, systematically download or use bots or automated tools to extract content or data, except where applicable law gives a right that cannot lawfully be restricted;
  • use MockMode content or data to train, fine-tune or evaluate an external AI or machine-learning model without our written permission;
  • attempt to bypass free-tier limits, subscription controls, security measures or access controls;
  • reverse engineer or decompile software except to the limited extent a legal right cannot lawfully be excluded;
  • introduce malware, interfere with the service, probe for vulnerabilities or attempt unauthorised access;
  • use MockMode for commercial tutoring, school-wide use, resale or redistribution without a separate written agreement; or
  • use the service unlawfully or in a way that infringes another person's rights.

15. Intellectual property

MockMode and its licensors own or license the intellectual-property rights in the platform, software, branding, design, database structure, question banks, mock examinations, explanations, graphics, reports and other content.

While the account is entitled to use MockMode, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to use the service and content for the personal educational use of the child profile permitted by the plan. This licence does not transfer ownership of our software or content.

Nothing in these Terms restricts a right that applicable law says cannot be restricted.

16. AI-assisted content creation

Some practice questions and explanations may be developed internally with assistance from AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude. The content is stored in MockMode and reviewed before being made available to children. MockMode does not use live AI to mark children's answers, generate personalised feedback or analyse individual child performance, and the app does not send child personal information to those AI providers.

AI assistance does not make MockMode content an official examination paper or remove our responsibility to take reasonable care over the service.

17. Service availability and changes

We aim to provide MockMode reliably but cannot promise that an online service will be uninterrupted or error-free at all times. We may carry out maintenance, fix faults and security issues, and make reasonable technical, educational or design changes.

We may add, remove or change features where reasonably necessary to improve the service, respond to legal or security requirements, or update educational content. We will not use this clause as an unrestricted right to remove substantial paid benefits during a prepaid period. If a material change substantially reduces what you have already paid for, we will give reasonable notice where practicable and provide an appropriate remedy where required by law or fairness.

18. Suspension, termination and account closure

We may temporarily restrict or suspend an account where reasonably necessary to protect security, investigate suspected fraud or misuse, respond to payment failure, or address a serious breach of these Terms.

Where appropriate, we will explain the reason and give a reasonable opportunity to correct a remediable breach before permanent termination. We may terminate immediately for serious fraud, deliberate security abuse, serious unlawful conduct or deliberate large-scale infringement of our intellectual property.

If we terminate a paid service for our convenience or permanently stop offering it, and the termination is not because of your breach, we will give reasonable notice where practicable and provide a fair remedy for unused prepaid time. Personal information after account closure is handled under our Privacy Policy.

19. Third-party services

MockMode uses third-party technology providers, including Stripe for hosted payments and subscription management and technology providers for hosting, authentication, storage and email delivery. A third party may have its own terms and privacy information where it deals with you in its own capacity. We remain responsible for obligations that applicable law places on MockMode.

Links to third-party websites are provided for convenience or information. We do not control their content and a link does not imply affiliation or endorsement unless we expressly say so.

20. Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or liability that cannot lawfully be limited under consumer law.

If we breach these Terms or fail to use reasonable care and skill, we are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of that breach or failure. Loss is foreseeable if it was an obvious consequence or both you and we knew it might happen when the contract was made.

MockMode is supplied for personal educational use. We are not responsible for business losses caused by use of the service for commercial purposes contrary to these Terms.

We are not responsible merely because a child does not obtain a particular examination result or school place. Admissions decisions and examination outcomes depend on factors outside our control. This does not exclude responsibility for failing to provide MockMode in accordance with applicable consumer law.

We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events genuinely outside our reasonable control, but we will take reasonable steps to reduce disruption and this does not remove mandatory consumer rights.

21. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms because of changes to law, security, technology or the way MockMode operates. We will not use this clause as a blank cheque to impose an unexpected material disadvantage on an existing prepaid subscription.

If a change materially affects an existing paid customer, we will give reasonable advance notice. Where law or fairness requires, a material change will apply only on a future renewal or you will have an appropriate cancellation or refund option.

22. Complaints

If you have a problem with MockMode, email support@mockmode.app. We will try to resolve complaints fairly and promptly. Data-protection complaints are handled under the process described in our Privacy Policy.

If a law, regulator, trade-association rule or contract requires us to participate in an alternative dispute resolution process, we will give the consumer the information required about that process. Nothing in these Terms prevents you from using rights or remedies available under consumer law.

23. Governing law and courts

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you also benefit from any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. Consumers may bring proceedings in the courts available to them under applicable consumer-jurisdiction rules.

24. Other important terms

If a court finds part of these Terms unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining parts will continue to apply.

If we do not enforce a term immediately, that does not mean we have permanently waived it.

We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms as part of a genuine business reorganisation, investment, sale or transfer, provided this does not reduce your mandatory consumer protections. You may not transfer a personal MockMode account to another person without our consent.
